MARSHALL COUNTY, Tenn. (WSMV) - A man is behind bars after being charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, according to Animal Rescue Assistance Team Tennessee (ARATT).
On October 10, ARATT said it received a call from dispatch about an emergency in Petersburg after someone saw a dog being dumped.
A deputy with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office responded immediately. When they rescued the dog, according to ARATT, he was bleeding and had a wire muzzle on. The deputy was able to slow down the bleeding by wrapping the dog’s neck.
That dog was later identified as Bradford, but he is also called Max, according to the rescue group.A veterinarian at the Meredith Warner Animal Clinic told ARATT that Max had a possible gunshot wound and was wearing a wire muzzle, which prevented him from eating.
A few days later, on October 14, a deputy with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect in the dog incident was charged and arrested.
The suspect’s name has not been released, but authorities told ARATT a 48-year-old man was arrested and charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and booked on a $300,000 bond.ARATT said in an update that Max is “doing good considering what he has been through.” He received medication and is now able to eat and use the bathroom.
The organization said he will be under a foster holding until he finds placement.
