The Historic Zoning Commission Allowed Designed To Proceed.

The City of Lawrenceburg presented a proposed redesign of the green space in the center of the Public Square to the Historic Zoning Commission for review and consideration.
According to the city, the concept is intended to create a more inviting gathering place and strengthen connections between the green space and surrounding businesses. Proposed improvements include a central feature inspired by the historic 1905 courthouse, new walkways, distinct gathering areas, landscaping, shade, seating, and lighting.
Councilman Robin Williams questioned why only one design was presented, saying he had seen several designs at a previous meeting. Williams requested more information about wanting to see more options.
City Administrator Dick McKinley said that while people have different ideas for the square, this was the design the city submitted for review of its compatibility with historic guidelines. McKinley also said many of the folks that they have heard from from around the square did not want another big roof or another building in the space center.
The Historic Zoning Commission passed the motion with no objections, stating that it saw no reason to decline the proposal. The commission clarified that its decision should not be interpreted as an endorsement or critique of the design.
