State Senator Joey Hensley is highlighting legislation passed

during the 2026 session of the Tennessee General Assembly aimed at national security and limiting foreign adversary influence in the state.

Hensley says lawmakers approved legislation prohibiting foreign adversaries from financing litigation in Tennessee and requiring greater transparency involving third-party litigation funding.
Other legislation strengthened restrictions on certain foreign parties and foreign-controlled businesses acquiring property interests in Tennessee, including non-agricultural land and mineral rights.

Lawmakers also approved the Tennessee Procurement Protection Act, which restricts state and local governments from purchasing certain high-risk technology products connected to countries identified by the federal government as foreign adversaries.

Additional legislation protects certain homeland security records from public disclosure when their release could threaten public safety, including information involving critical infrastructure, threat assessments, emergency response plans and cybersecurity.

Hensley also highlighted passage of the Crush Transnational Repression in Tennessee Act, which increases penalties for certain crimes committed on behalf of foreign adversaries or terrorist organizations and creates an offense involving unauthorized attempts to enforce foreign laws or directives in Tennessee.

The 114th Tennessee General Assembly has adjourned for 2026.
