ST. JOSEPH POLICE MAKE ARREST FOLLOWING REPORTED THEFT

Early this morning, officers with the St. Joseph Police Department responded to a report of a theft at a residence within the city.

The resident reported observing, through a home security system, an individual arrive at the residence, exit a vehicle, and take two gasoline cans from the garage area. The resident was able to provide officers with still images of both the individual and the vehicle involved.

A short time later, a St. Joseph Police officer located a vehicle matching the one depicted in the security footage parked at Dollar General. During the investigation, the two gas cans reported stolen were recovered. Two additional gas cans were also located and are being investigated to determine their ownership.

The individual was taken into custody and transported to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department for booking. The recovered property belonging to the reporting resident was returned.

The City of St. Joseph commends the resident for promptly reporting the incident and providing security footage that assisted officers in quickly identifying and locating the vehicle involved. This incident is another example of how cooperation between residents and local law enforcement can help protect our community.
