The City of St. Joseph would like to recognize and thank the employees of our Utilities/Public Works Department for their continued hard work, dedication, and service to our community.

This summer’s frequent rainfall has caused unusually fast grass and vegetation growth, making mowing and grounds maintenance a constant challenge. Our three-man crew continues to maintain City grounds, the park, flower beds, State right-of-ways, drainage areas, signs, and other public spaces, often working through the summer heat, rain, and other inclement weather to get the job done.

Their responsibilities go far beyond mowing. They read water and gas meters, respond to and repair leaks, help maintain our utility systems, perform maintenance on City buildings and facilities, work on City vehicles, machinery, tools, and equipment, assist with streets and drainage, handle storm cleanup and fallen limbs, and take care of countless other needs that arise throughout the City.

Their work also does not always end after their eight hour shift. They are often called out after hours, at night, and on weekends when a leak, utility issue, storm damage, or other problem simply cannot wait.

For a crew of only three employees, they carry an incredible amount of responsibility and are, in many ways, the people who keep St. Joseph going from one day to the next.

City Manager Chris D. Jackson said, “We are grateful for the dedication, versatility, and pride our Public Works crew brings to the job each day, and while much of their work happens behind the scenes, their efforts make a visible difference across St. Joseph."

"Whether they are responding to a leak after hours, maintaining our utilities, repairing equipment, or working outside in the heat and inclement weather, they continue to step up and do what is needed to keep our city going," he added.
