A mother and her two adult children were found dead Wednesday evening in what police are calling an apparent murder-suicide at the Red Bay Housing Authority complex on Eugenia Nixon Circle.
Red Bay Police Chief Janna Jackson said officers responded to the apartment and discovered the three victims inside. They were identified as 59-year-old Theresa Sappington, 28-year-old Leigha Moody, and 23-year-old Derick Moody.
According to Jackson, investigators believe Derick Moody fatally beat Sappington and Leigha Moody with a baseball bat before taking her own life. A baseball bat and a firearm were recovered at the scene.
Police continue to investigate and are working to determine a timeline of events.
