Maury County man convicted of triple murder faces death penalty

MAURY COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Maury County man is facing the death penalty after a jury on Saturday convicted him of murdering three family members.

Prosecutors accused Nathanial Pipkin, now 26, of killing his 44-year-old mother, Traci McNeely, his 20-year-old brother, Carson Pipkin, and his 11-year-old half-sister, Kailee Warren at their home in October 2021.

Investigators said Pipkin also attempted kill his stepfather, Jesse McNeely — but he escaped through a window and called 911. At the time, Pipkin claimed “self-defense.”

District Attorney Brent Cooper said Pipkin was found guilty of three counts of first degree premeditated murder, two counts of felony murder, one count of attempted first degree murder, and employing a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony.

“We are seeking the death penalty,” Cooper announced on Facebook.The jury is scheduled to begin hearing evidence for the sentencing phase on Monday, August 3.
