EBT benefits stolen in Lawrence County after recent report of skimming devices found at local stores.

 

A Lawrence County woman reported to Lawrenceburg Now that on Thursday her EBT grocery money was stolen from her card where she unknowingly was a victim of card skimmer theft.

The local woman stated that her benefits are loaded to her card on the 1st of every month, and on Thursday evening she attempted to go grocery shopping only to discover there was only $3 remaining on her card.

After calling her card the victim checked the recent transaction history to discover that there was two purchases on her card totaling in $817 that had been stolen from EBT card.

The victim had remembered seeing a recent news report that Lawrenceburg Now had on their website about EBT skimmer theft where the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office had 13 EBT fraud reports where close to $10,000 was stolen.

Multiple skimmer devices where seized at a store in Lawrenceburg, Loretto, and Summertown following their investigation.

The local woman discovered that her EBT benefits were used in Chicago, Illinois after she reported the fraud to the Department of Human services where she receives her EBT benefits and with the Police Department.
