17-year-old dies after cliff jumping at Nashville quarry, police say

The boy’s body was recovered by crews with the Nashville Fire Department shortly after the accident.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A Middle Tennessee teenager died during a cliff-jumping accident in Nashville over the weekend, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

Police said that officers and crews with the Nashville Fire Department responded to the Bellevue Quarry at about 6 p.m. Sunday.

Witnesses told officers the teen jumped off the cliff with them and when they resurfaced, they noticed he was unresponsive.

They attempted to bring him to the shore, but he sank and did not resurface, according to MNPD.

Crews with NFD recovered the body of 17-year-old Evan Marsch, of Spring Hill, just before 7 p.m.

Marsch was reportedly at the quarry with three friends: an 18-year-old from Chapel Hill, a 17-year-old from Lawrenceburg and a 15-year-old from Spring Hill.

No other information has been released at this time.
