PRESS RELEASE - FIREWORK INJURIES
Shortly after dusk on 7/4/25, Lawrence County EMS was dispatched to a call for individuals who had sustained firework injuries. LCEMS and other first responders responded and made contact with two individuals. One individual was transported to a local facility with serious injuries, and a second individual was flown to a regional specialty center with critical injuries.
As celebrations continue throughout the night and into the weekend, Lawrence County EMS reminds individuals to practice safety when using fireworks. Below are a few safety tips when celebrating with fireworks:
Never Let Kids Play With Fireworks – Even sparklers burn hot enough to cause serious burns. Supervise all children closely around fireworks.
Always Keep Water Nearby – Whether it’s a hose or a bucket, having water within reach can prevent small accidents from becoming big ones. Make sure to soak fireworks before discarding in trash receptacles.
Never Mix Fireworks with Alcohol or Drugs – Impaired judgment and explosive materials are a dangerous combination.
❌ Never Attempt to Relight a 'Dud' Firework – Wait at least 20 minutes, then soak it in water before discarding.
Point Fireworks Away from People, Homes, and Vehicles – Always launch from a safe, open area free of overhead obstructions.
Keep Pets Safe – Fireworks can terrify pets. Keep them indoors in a quiet space with comforting sounds and distractions.
