Florence police arrest 24-year-old involved in overnight downtown shooting, one injured

FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Florence Police Department said the shooting happened in Downtown Florence overnight.

Around 12:40 a.m. Sunday, FPD officers responded to reports of a shooting in the area of Court Street in downtown Florence.

When officers arrived, they found a victim, identified as 21-year-old Noah Briseno, who had a gunshot wound to his ankle.

FPD said thanks to witness cooperation, responding officers were able to identify the suspect as 24-year-old Roderick Watkins. The department said witnesses also provided a description of the vehicle involved, a gray Dodge Challenger, which was quickly located by FPD officers in the area.

“Officers successfully called Watkins out of the vehicle without further incident. A handgun was recovered from inside the vehicle. Watkins was taken into custody and taken to the Lauderdale County Detention Center,” FPD said.

Watkins is charged with reckless endangerment and has since bonded out.
