COLUMBIA, Tenn. (WKRN) — Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Maury County that left a deputy injured and a man accused of firing the first shots dead.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said around 3 a.m. Sunday, Maury County deputies responded to reports of two people fighting and “possible drug activity” at a gas station in the 2400 block of Lewisburg Highway.
The two deputies arrived to find 25-year-old Clayton Tyler Dodson and a woman in a parked car next to the building.
According to the TBI, Dodson pulled out a firearm and shot at the deputy, striking his bulletproof vest. Both deputies fired back at Dodson, who later died at the hospital.
Officials said the deputy had minor injuries following the shooting.
