Franklin County woman accused of admitting she killed husband seeks bond

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — A Franklin County woman is scheduled to appear in court for a bond hearing on Monday after investigators say she admitted to shooting and killing her husband.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office says Sherri Mitchell-Clutts, 65, admitted to killing Timothy Clutts, 69, after she returned home from open heart surgery.

Sgt. Kyle Palmer says deputies responded to her home on Duncan Creek Road around 7:30 p.m. on May 10 after a woman reported she had shot her husband.

When deputies arrived, they found Timothy Clutts in a chair in the living room with a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Investigators say they recovered a handgun at the scene.

According to the sheriff’s office, Mitchell-Clutts told deputies she fired the shot because she felt her life was in danger when her husband came to check on her after the surgery. She said he then went on to watch TV in the living room, where investigators say he was shot.

Timothy Clutts’ body has been sent for an autopsy.

Mitchell-Clutts is being held in the Franklin County jail on a murder charge.
