Lawrence County High School names Darrell Boston as the new Band Director of the Big Gold Machine.

Darrell Boston recently retired as Director of Bands at Loretto High School. He taught previously at Whitthorne Middle School and Columbia Central High School in Columbia, Tennessee, Coffman Middle School and Lawrence County High School in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. His bands consistently received superior ratings in concert and marching venues.

Mr. Boston was granted his Bachelor of Music degree from Middle Tennessee State University, and his Master's and Education Specialist degrees from Tennessee State University. The National Band Association has awarded him the Citation of Excellence, and he also has been selected as an Outstanding Man of America, Who’s Who Among American High School Teachers, and was honored with recognition by SB &O School Band & Orchestra Magazine in its selection of 50 Directors Who Make A Difference. In 2018 Mr. Boston was inducted into the Middle Tennessee Band of Blue Hall of Fame.

Mr. Boston was selected to perform in the 2022 Rose Bowl Parade with the Salute to America’s Band Directors Honor Band. He has been selected to perform in the 2023 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with the Salute to America’s Band Directors Honor Band. His professional affiliations include Middle Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association, Tennessee Music Education Association, National Band Association, National Association for Music Education, Tennessee Bandmasters Association, Phi Mu Alpha, American School Band Directors Association, and Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters’ Fraternity.

Principal Willie Joiner says, “I am pleased to welcome Darrell Boston back to the Wildcat Family! Mr. Boston is a great musician but more importantly, a great person who will be a great example for our students. He is an alumnus of LCHS and a proven leader as a director and in all aspects of the music community. I look forward to him leading our Big Gold Machine and our entire music program with the same energy and enthusiasm he has exhibited all throughout his career.”
