A tragic Monday crash took the life of a Tennesse highway patrol trooper.

On Monday Tennessee highway patrol trooper, Matthew Gatti, of the Memphis district was killed in a crash on Interstate 40 in Madison County.

The Tennessee highway patrol confirmed that Gatti was killed in a crash while responding to a call.

Tennessee Department of Transportation rerouted traffic on I-40 while crews were on the scene of the crash.

A statement was released by the Tennessee highway patrol that said:

"Our hearts are filled with much grief and sadness. The family of Trooper Gatti is in our deepest thoughts and prayers. Please keep Trooper Gatti, his family and friends in your hearts and prayers."
