Madison County Sheriff’s Office Warns Public of Fraudulent “Court Notice” Scam:
Madison County, AL – The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a fraudulent document currently being distributed throughout the county that falsely claims to be an official court notice regarding traffic violations.
The document, titled “Final Enforcement Notice – Court-Ordered Compliance Required,” appears to originate from the State of Alabama and includes official-looking seals, legal references, and a QR code for payment. Remain vigilant and don’t be scammed by these criminals.
“These scammers are counting on people to react quickly out of fear,” said Sheriff Kevin Turner. “Our office and the Madison County court system do not operate this way. We will never send out notices demanding immediate payment through a QR code or unofficial payment site. If you receive something like this, stop and verify before taking any action.”
Residents are urged to be cautious and to recognize common signs of fraud, including demands for immediate payment, use of QR codes or unofficial payment portals, and threats of enforcement action without prior verified contact.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office emphasizes:
★ Official court notices are not delivered in this manner with demands for immediate electronic payment via QR codes.
★ Individuals should never provide personal or financial information in response to unsolicited or suspicious documents.
★ Any legitimate court matter can be verified directly through the appropriate court office.
Anyone who receives one of these documents is encouraged not to scan the QR code or submit payment and to report the incident to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. We also encourage our citizens to share this information with family, friends, and neighbors to help prevent others from becoming victims.
