Subject: LCFR Awarded Grant for Grain Bin Rescue Equipment

We are pleased to share with you that Lawrence County Fire Rescue has been notified that we have been awarded a “Great Wall of Rescue Adaptable Grain Bin Rescue System” along with a Grain Bin Rescue Training Class.

The grant was applied for on Grain Bin Safety Week in February of 2024 through a program provided by Nationwide Insurance Company. We want to say a big thank you to Keely Story, a local Nationwide Insurance Agent for her help with the project.

The equipment and training class are tentatively scheduled to arrive near the end of May/beginning of June of 2024.

We do already have grain bin rescue trained personnel in our County. The City of Ethridge Fire Department currently houses and operates a Grain Bin Rescue trailer that is equipped with a Great Wall and the other necessary equipment. If you will remember back to November of 2023 the Ethridge Grain Bin Rescue Trailer and trained personnel from across our county along with the City of Lawrenceburg were able to successfully rescue a farmer who had became trapped in a grain bin incident just outside of Ethridge. A Great Wall System was used to effect that rescue. Our goal is to be able to purchase a second enclosed trailer and equip it with the Great Wall System that we have been awarded along with all of the other necessary equipment. The new rescue trailer would be strategically located in our County.

If you or anyone that you know would be interested in donating to the Grain Bin Rescue Trailer Project please contact Lawrence County Fire Rescue Director Tyler McDow.
