Update to Sunday night’s shooting.

A suspect has been identified in connection with Sunday night’s homicide investigation.
On Monday, February 16, 2026, Aaron Wayne Purvis 31 of Atmore Alabama was taken into custody in Franklin County, Tennessee, on charges unrelated to this investigation. At the time of the arrest, authorities recovered multiple firearms and other evidence. Investigators believe one of the firearms in the suspect’s possession was used in Sunday night’s shooting. Warrants have been filed charging Aaron Wayne Purvis with 1st Degree Homicide and Attempted 1st Degree Homicide.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office for their swift action, collaboration, and professionalism, which were instrumental in identifying Aaron Purvis as the suspect in this homicide investigation.
Sheriff Purvis stated:
“I am very proud of the hard work our deputies and investigators put in to bring this case to this point. Their professionalism and tireless dedication, along with partnerships across the state led to the collection of evidence which established probable cause to file charges. I would also like to thank Franklin County Sheriff Tim Fuller, and his staff for their attentiveness and partnership. Without their efforts, the suspect may have remained at large, posing a significant risk to public safety. I also want to thank District Attorney Brent Cooper and his staff for their continued assistance throughout this investigation.”
This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Aaron Purvis will be transported to the Giles County Jail after he is released from the Franklin County Jail. Just like in all cases, all suspects are assumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
