FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn. (WHNT) – Crews battled a large fire in the Fayetteville Square early Sunday that damaged multiple businesses and prompted road closures.
Firefighters told News 19 that the call came in around 3:30 a.m. The fire started in one business on Market Street, but then spread to others nearby.
City officials told News 19 that Mercantile on Market, The Skin Refinery, and Dance Academy Fayetteville were all destroyed, with a fourth business also receiving extensive damage.
Fayetteville City administrator Kevin Owens added that two firefighters were injured while battling the fire. The injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.
The Fayetteville Fire Department, along with the Tullahoma and Lincoln County Fire Departments, worked to get the fire out.
Fayetteville Police said Main Avenue from Maple Street to College Street, Elk Avenue from College to Maple Street, and Market Street from Lincoln Avenue to Franklin Avenue are all closed.
The cause of the fire is not currently known. People are asked to avoid the area.
