Sheriff’s Department employee arrested on DUI charge following crash
Lawrenceburg Now
A member of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department faces a DUI charge after becoming involved in an automobile accident prior to Christmas.
Police reports indicate that an officer with the Lawrenceburg Police Department answered the call to the Windsor Avenue/Kay Street intersection just before 8:30 p.m. on Friday, December 22. The individual who called to report the single vehicle crash indicated that the driver appeared to be impaired.
According to reports, the officer arrived to find a 2016 Ford F150 truck off of the roadway and against a tree. The driver, identified as fifty-one year old Robert Lee Denton of Lawrenceburg, was on-scene and cooperative in the investigation. He told the officer that he had been traveling along Kay Street and was unable to stop when he approached the Windsor Avenue intersection.
In his report, the officer noted that Denton exhibited several characteristics of being intoxicated and admitted that he had been drinking prior to the crash. He declined to perform field sobriety tests as well as a blood draw and breath analysis. He was subsequently taken into custody on a charge of first offense DUI.
Denton was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center without incident, where his bond was set at $1,000. He was later released on his own recognizance. A General Sessions court appearance has been scheduled for January 4, 2018.
