Threats against local man and his granddaughter result in arrest of East Tennessee sex offender
Lawrenceburg Now
Threats that were made against a Lawrenceburg man and his granddaughter last week led to the arrest of a sex offender in East Tennessee.
The forty-four year old victim came to the Lawrenceburg Police Department on Thursday to report the matter. He told officers that he had met the man, identified as Cody E. Hale, in Knoxville. He said that since that time, he has repeatedly called him, leaving disturbing voicemail messages.
The victim said that he was able to save the messages. He told officers that in one message Hale told him that he was “going to challenge him to a death match.” The most disturbing, he said, was a message in which he threatened to “rape and kill his four year old granddaughter.” The message indicated that Hale knew where his granddaughter resided out of state.
As for a motive behind the threats, the victim said that Hale “may be upset over money that was loaned.”
The victim was able to provide officers with information about Hale’s whereabouts, saying that he was staying in a motel in Sweetwater, Tennessee. Lawrence Central Dispatch confirmed that there were active arrest warrants against Hale in East Tennessee for violating the state Sex Offender Registry law.
Officers were able to make contact with police officers in Sweetwater and provided them with the information regarding Hale’s possible whereabouts. Reports show that they received word a short time later that officers there had been able to locate and arrest Hale.
At the current time detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division are continuing the investigation into the local threats.
