Lawrenceburg Now

A Columbia man was arrested on Friday of last week after he allegedly rushed into the home of a stranger, then locked himself inside the bathroom.

Lawrenceburg Police Department reports show that the incident occurred after 10:00 pm. Friday at a home on Johnson Street. The resident reported that she had opened her front door after hearing a noise outside, and that a stranger ran into her house. He quickly closed the door, then sat on the floor, leaning against it.

Police officers found the man, locked inside of the bathroom. He refused to unlock the door because he didn’t believe they were actually police officers. Also, he said he was afraid that the officers were there to kill him. He said that he had hidden inside the home because ten people were chasing him and trying to kill him.

According to reports, the man admitted to police officers that he had used meth the day before.

The resident was not interested in filing charges against the man. Because of his condition, officers took him into custody.

The man, identified as Kyle Thomas Smith, age 37, of Columbia was booked into the Lawrence County Jail on a charge of public intoxication. He will appear in General Sessions Court on August 8.
