Investigation into robbery, officer involved shooting is underway

Investigation is underway into a Friday afternoon robbery incident that reportedly culminated in the suspect being shot. 

   Authorities indicate that Lawrenceburg Police officers were dispatched in the wake of an armed robbery at a North Locust Avenue business. The suspect fled, and officers were able to corner him in the vicinity of Murphy Oil and Deals on Wheels. 


   The suspect, reportedly armed with a knife, was shot by a police officer during the incident. He was subsequently transported to Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems Lawrenceburg where he was pronounced dead. No other injuries resulted from the situation.


   As is protocol in an officer involved shooting incident, the investigation is being conducted through the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

The suspect was later identified as thirty-three year old Lawrenceburg resident Randy Thomas Groom.
