22 month old Kentucky toddler found alive after 3 days in the wilderness.

According to Kentucky State Police the toddler was reported missing on Sunday night around 7:30 p.m., and the family told officers they were not sure how he wondered off unless he went out the homes back door.

Search and rescue leaders used all their resources to find 22 month old Kenneth Howard, including helicopters, drones with thermal cameras, several K-9 unit teams with bloodhounds to comb the wooded area near the home, and a community full of volunteers that came to help as well.

South Magoffin Fire Department Assistant Chief, Brent Handshoe spoke about not giving up during the search, "I was froze to death and wet and every time I would think I was cold, I would think about that baby and then I'd about start crying, "I don't know. I just didn't want to give up on him."

On Wednesday around 2:00 p.m. after 3 days, and 67 hours of search teams working, the 22 month old Kenneth Howard was found alive! The toddler was found about 1,700 feet from his home in the area of a strip mine in Floyd County which is on the border of Magoffin County.

officials said crews found Howard when they heard crying coming from a 50 foot incline where rescuers had to use a rope and basket to rescue the toddler, who was conscious and alert.

The Family was overjoyed with the incredible news thanking everyone that was involved in finding Howard.

The Magoffin County Sheriff’s Department said Howard was airlifted to a nearby Medical facility where he was being treated for dehydration but was nonetheless “in remarkably good condition.”
