District Attorney examining state law regarding sheriff’s arrest

Lawrenceburg Now

22nd Judicial District Attorney Brent Cooper has reported that he is looking into state law in relation to Thursday’s arrest of Lawrence County Sheriff Jimmy Brown.

Brown and Captain Adam Brewer were arrested on official misconduct charges in the wake of a year-long investigation by the Tennessee Comptroller’s office and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation into alleged improprieties regarding use of inmate labor, preferential treatment in the posting of bonds, and inaccuracies in the reporting of hours worked through the department.

Cooper is reviewing state law to determine whether a lawsuit may be brought, should Brown opt not to resign from his office.
