Fake money used to buy handgun

Lawrenceburg Now

Lawrenceburg Police Department reports show that a man who bought a handgun from a Summertown resident on Wednesday, paid him using fake money.

Lawrenceburg Police officers were dispatched to speak with the victim at around 8:00 Wednesday night. He explained that the man had wanted to buy his 9mm Walther handgun and that they had arranged to meet in the parking lot of a business on East Gaines Street to conduct the transaction.

Reports show that the victim took the money he was handed, then gave the man the handgun. He quickly realized that the three $100 bills were actually counterfeit.

Officers were able to use a license plate number provided by the victim to determine that the man might be a resident of Pulaski. The victim said that he had headed east when he left the parking lot.

Officers worked with Giles County police officers to try to intercept the car, but had not found the vehicle or driver when reports were filed.
