Thieves abandon difficult-to-transport stolen property
Lawrenceburg Now
Property that was stolen from a Smith Avenue resident last weekend was soon abandoned by thieves when it proved to be too difficult to transport.
Lawrenceburg Police Department reports show that the five horsepower Troy-Bilt brand, combination wood chipper/leaf blower, valued at $375, was stolen from the back of the home, where it had been stored beneath a tarp.
The owner told officers that it appeared that the persons responsible had also attempted to take his rototiller, but had been unable to do so. Reports show that the rear wheels on the rototiller were locked up and the transmission locked in gear.
The culprits dragged it a short distance, but abandoned it in the back yard when the task proved too difficult. He said that the crime had likely occurred the previous day.
The victim’s chipper/blower had actually been located on nearby May Street the day before he filed the police report. The resident had contacted police officers when he found that it had been abandoned next to his house.
The man told officers that he had heard noises outside of his home just before 9:00 p.m. He looked out and noticed two male subjects leaving his driveway in a brown colored vehicle. He said he went outside and walked around his house to see whether anything had been disturbed and found the machine.
The crime currently remains under investigation through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone who has information about the crime is encouraged to contact the department at 931-762-2276.
