Paul Rosson has an ad in this week's Advocate accusing Jim Modlin and J. Mack Chandler of wanting to cut critical aspects of county funding. I simply don't believe this to be the truth at all.
I haven't heard anything from either candidate to lead me to believe they are going to cut our children's future. I haven't heard either candidate say that they would do anything to adversely affect our county infrastructure.
Nor have I heard either one say they want to cut economic development. To the contrary, they are wanting to improve these areas!
Mr. Rosson claims the county is in the same amount of debt now that it was when he came into office. Actually, it's about $1 million more in debt, and while the county paid off some debt while he was in office, more than $17 million in new debt was still added to the county's budget. We are now $53,720,000 in debt, not $52 million as Rosson claims. Our children and grandchildren are going to pay this back.
We cannot borrow anymore money without a new revenue stream. Either we raise taxes or we create a new tax. That's state mandated.
Excess spending and poor money management have left us where we are today.
On August 5, I urge you, vote for a change in the County Executive Office. Our children's future depends on it.
