Many people pass through this intersection everyday but not much thought is given to the history here. Of course the Crockett Theatre is seen NOW with the traffic lights above, but THEN we see part of the Gunn home on the extreme left.
This view would have been from the old Courthouse but, since it no longer stands on the square a little help from a bucket truck positioned us for the NOW look of a similar photo taken during a Sunday School Parade on August 6, 1922. The monument is still present however many buildings are not. Ledbetters Drug Store of today was part of the structure on the west side of today's store. The Gunn home is seen in the center left which would one day become the Silo Service Station. A clock stood on the east sidewalk in front of what is today H and R Block. More utility lines also strewn above the streets THEN. We noticed in the crosswalk section entering the square what looked like a child on a post. An enlargement of that section appears to be a sign post. Possibly a "Watch For Pedestrians" post. Wonder who the person is leaning against the light post in the lower left watching the parade? Thanks to Smith Signs for the use of the bucket truck.
