I believe First National Bank use to be in the corner building seen here. Today the Cherokee Museum. Whites Department Store occupied the building in the right side of the photo. THEN we can see the stucture called Gibbs and Belew stretched to the corner. The old Post Office was located here. You can see too access to the very front of the stores was easy without the sidewalk and landscaping of today. This is possibly turn of the century, 1900, with only horse and buggies present. And yes I believe that would be dirt, not pavement they're cruising on.
This is an apartment building today but the architecture says "Church". And it was at one time. We see immediately how the ornate windows have been bricked and smaller house type windows installed. The bell tower has been removed too. With more research we'll find out more.
