Today, millions of Americans are taking part in National Day of Prayer observances across the country.
Like most national observances or holidays it’s important that we not just honor them on their set dates.
It’s incumbent on all of us to carry the true spirit of those days throughout the year, whether we are honoring our veterans or taking part in a collective National Day of Prayer.
As Tennesseans slowly begin uncovering from this past weekend's devastating storms, I can say without a doubt many of those tired souls are relying on God and friends and family to carry them through. It is important that we work to uplift them.
I believe we should pray for those who lost their lives and the family members who lost loved ones. We should also offer up prayers of appreciation to the brave Tennesseans that risked their lives to save and rescue, in some cases perfect strangers.
We have a lot of work ahead of us. Local, state, and federal agencies are working in coordination as we speak. Tennesseans are helping Tennesseans. It is amazing to see what we are made of. I am proud to call myself a native and resident of the Volunteer State.
Over the course of the next several days, weeks, and months, I will continue to advocate for more assistance.
In the meantime, I have set up a disaster relief page on my official House website, www.house.gov/lincolndavis, where Tennesseans can find useful information on available services. The flood emergency information page will be updated as needed.
Let us pray that God gives those who have lost much the strength to endure, and to those assisting, the wisdom to continue acting with compassion and character.
Sincerely,
Lincoln
