Lawrence Native Returns For Book Signing

Kathryn Cushman  Lawrenceburg native Kathryn “Katie” Parrish Cushman returned to her hometown last week to host a book signing at the Christian Bookstore on the Lawrenceburg Public Square.

A self-described “dog-toting druggist with a secret love for tree-climbing,” Parrish is a 1982 graduate of Lawrence County High School. After graduation she headed south to Birmingham. She graduated from Samford University where she studied to become a pharmacist. Katie signs her book

Parrish’s first job was in retail pharmacy in Nashville, where she met now-husband Lee Cushman. The couple moved from Nashville to California, Orgeon, then Atlanta, eventually settling in Lee Cushman’s hometown of Santa Barbara, California. They have resided there for the past fourteen years, raising their two daughters.

Locals wait in line to purchase a book and have it signed  Parrish left the world of pharmacology in order to become a stay-at-home-mom. Now that her girls are older, she has turned her attention to the art of writing. Her first novel, A Promise To Remember, is now on the shelves through Bethany House Publishers. A publisher’s description of the novel reads as follows:

Andie Phelps is the envy of Santa Barbara. A devoted mother with a loving son and a successful husband, her greatest joy comes from reaching out to others.

Melanie Johnston is the envy of no one. A single mom who works long hours to pay the bills, and her greatest joys relate to her teen daughter and son.

Katies' mother  Then the accident that changes everything. When opposite worlds collide, the impact reaches far beyond these mothers’ personal losses.

Two wounded women…Two families seeking hope…A community torn apart… How far will they go to fulfill A Promise to Remember?
