I am sitting here shaking my head in sadness and disgust.
I have watched both sides go back and forth over the Jennifer Parrott "alleged" puppy mill. Why is this taking so long??
How can anyone consider giving her back these poor, helpless animals??..HOW?!?! I did go to the temporary jail at the landfill to take a look at these dogs to see if they were as bad as what I had heard.
What I DID see was filthy, matted, tangled dogs. Now it wasn't the long grown winter coats that some animals DO get during the winter months I they are outside, we are talking over grown, matted up FILTH!!
When an animals coat gets like that, it is painful to them. If matting is really bad, like these guys, an animal can get MOLD, MAGGOTS, SKIN TEARS, and more.
What is matting and how is it harmful to your pet? Matting is a clumping together of your pets' hair. It can be a minor to severe condition, that is not only painful but also unhealthy for your pet.
The question you have to ask yourself is would you walk around with unbrushed, tangled and knotted hair? Most, would answer no to this question.
Imagine your head and most sensitive areas of your, body having tight knots of your hair right to your skin and think of how it would feel, everytime you move, even the slightest bit. A pretty painful thought, huh?
Well, your pets don't like it either. Especially with your pets that have a longer coat, it is SO, IMPORTANT to brush/comb their coats down to the skin, while being careful not to brush/comb too hard and irritate the skin, preferably on a daily basis and just as you would do to your own hair.
Even the shorter haired breeds benefit from regular brushing. It helps stimulate the skin, spread coat oils and removes dead or loose hairs. Once they become accustomed to this regular routine and learn that it is not a painful process, they should start to welcome the one on one time with you whether it's while sitting on the couch watching TV or doing something else.
It is worth the extra effort to spare your pet the undue stress of a matted coat, and they will thank you for it as well as you will have a much healthier pet.
How do you tell if your pet is matted? One simple tell tale sign, can you take a stiff metal comb, such as a greyhound comb with a fine or medium width and comb to the skin through out your pets' ENTIRE coat. If you can't, you most likely have a matted pet, and it needs to be resolved as soon as possible for your pets' optimum health and comfort.
What happens to a matted pet? Mats are like a diaper, they lie next to the skin and soak up moisture. Matting can tighten, pull the irritated skin and in severe cases cause lesions.
If your dog is covered with matting, you also might not catch new cancer spots, moles, tumors, swellings, ticks, and fleas.
Did you know that mats are frequently referred to as "Flea Motels"? Yes,that's right, those little buggers LOVE a matted dog! Severely matted coats have reduced air circulation and are missing the stimulation from regular brushing.
In extremely severe cases, the skin is so damaged and unhealthy that the outer layer of skin "peels away" with the coat in "Sheep Skin Rug Style". Veterinarian treatment should be the only option in extremely severe cases.**crosstownpetcare.com**
Now do you think Mrs. Parrott would allower HER hair to get in that shape? NO!
Do you think she would allow worms to ravage her belley, heart and intestines while she slowly and painfully bled to death?
How many animals have died in her care? No one will ever know the truth!!
Would she allow her finger nails to be unkempt muchless so overgrown they cause the dog to walk in pain, possibly having a nail ripped and yanked from the nerves and flesh!!
I also seen dogs with massive, nasty eye infections, with yellow and green puss oozing from their eyes. I also seen bald, scaley, crusty patches on other dogs.
Most of the dogs, their ears were so clumped up with crust I am sure their poor ears ached and possibly some were deaf due to this.
I also seen first hand foot pads that were torn and infected, I am almost certain from having to walk in urine and feces for God knows how long!! I also saw what is called Double Dapples, this is very dangerous and any responsible breeder would NEVER do this.
A Double Dapple dachshund has a majority of white fur and in most cases have one or both blue eyes. So, What's Wrong with a Double Dapple, you may ask?
For reasons unknown, the combination of two dapple genes hitting the same area of the dog can be lethal. I have seen double dapple puppies born with no eyes, and/or no ears. Blindness and/or deafness is also caused by the double dapple gene.
On the other hand, a double dapple can be born with no deformities at all, but this is rare and so not worth the risk! Why would someone breed doubles?
IGNORANCE AND GREED!! I could go on and on and on about what I saw in Mrs. Parrotts dogs, but I will stop here or now. If the welfare league went about rescuing these animals wrong, I would hate to hear it but atleast they tried to help these defenseless animals and for that I commend them.,but I pray to God that these animals will not be subjected back to this puppy mill breeder.
I also pray the courts will never allow her to own another pet. Think about this...would you want your child(ren) or elderly parents to live like this?? I would NOT, and it is the same diference, they are dependent on us and helpless in most cases.
I personally do not care who they are, who they know, how much money they do or not not have. I do not care who or where they go to church, who they work with, or hang out with or may or may not be related to.
I would so sign a petition and carry it door to door if it would help to stop this. No animal deserves this, and if she gets even ONE animal back I will never vote for anyone involved in allowing such a horrific act!!!
She had what? 50 animals...she is not only a puppy mill but a HOARDER!!! I hope she is forced to treatment. I pray for these animals each night, two dachshunds in paticular stay in my mind, they were inbred and so pitiful.
