County Executive Paul Rosson:
Respectable County Commissioners:
As I am sure you are aware the FY 2008 Audit report for Lawrence County was recently released. While I am not sure how many of our citizens read this report, I for one do. My email to you today is as a citizen of Lawrence County and only that. Last year for the most part the audit report was fairly clean.
There were only a couple of findings, included the repeated Courts finding (which was also repeated again this year). This year the audit report had several more findings; however, the overwhelming majority of those related to the Sheriff’s Department. From what I can tell it seems that most, if not all, of those have been cleared up. I just wanted to let you know for our County not to have any “major” issues is wonderful!!
While I have never worked in County government I cannot even imagine the amount of time it takes our accounts & budget department to run all of these various funds and accounts. I think Teresa and her girls have really been doing a great job over the past couple of years; however, it seems they are overlooked a lot though. Since most of the general public does not have to deal with her office they do not realize how important her and her staff are to Lawrence County. I also want to thank each of you and the other departments for all the hard work that everyone has put forth. Lawrence County was fortunate enough last year not to have to raise taxes!!
When you have the proper people in office that should always be the case. I hope that each of you (sorry that I do not have all 17 commissioner’s email) will take the time to thank Teresa and her office as well as the other offices. These people really put a lot of time and effort into what they do. As a matter of fact I would probably say that most of these people do NOT get to work 8 – 4:30 Monday – Friday only.
I am sure that some are working before/after hours and probably even on holidays and/or weekends. While the general public may not always see this it typically takes that of a governmental employee to get things done. It’s hard to fit everything into a 40 hour work week when you are working and for every citizen of our County.
Once again I commend you and all those working for us!!
Thank you –
Jeff Hughes, MBA, CFE
Thanks Jeff! I agree with you 100%. Most of what is said about local government and all of what people hear is negative. I am glad you are pointing out the hard work these individuals have put in and the results that have stemmed from that work.
Hopefully, the radio station and the paper will run your letter so the people can actually hear something good about government for once. In these tough times we find ourselves in, I think it will be good for the people to know they have people working hard for them.
Thanks,
Chris
