
Lloyd Comer, age 87, of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, died Friday, May 16, 2008 at his residence in Lawrenceburg. He was educated in the public schools of Lawrence County, Martin Methodist College, the University of Tennessee, and Nashville School of Law with a Doctrine of Jurisprudence. He was a veteran of WW2 in the 808 Tank Destroyer US Third Army Invasion of France Battle of the Bulge and received the Bronze Star Award. He was Commander of American Legion Post 63 and President of Lawrenceburg Lions Club. He also served as Juvenile Judge, Probate Judge, and General Sessions Judge of Lawrence County. Mr. Comer was also a 32nd Degree Mason with 50 years service and a Shriner, served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Homes. He was also a lifelong Baptist and member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Velma “Ikie” Bryant Comer of Lawrenceburg. One son, David Comer of Lawrenceburg. One Daughter, Betsy Comer Bishop of Lawrenceburg. One Sister, Eythel Danley of Birmingham, Ala. 3 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren survive. Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 pm Saturday, May 17. Funeral service will be at Neal Funeral Home at 4pm Sunday May 18 with Gary Anderson and Steve Clark officiating. Interment will be at Mimosa Cemetery in Lawrenceburg.
Carl Lumpkins, age 62, of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, died Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. She was a native of Hattiesburg, Mississippi and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cephus and Verona Beasley Long, one daughter, Crystal Lumpkins, one sister, Sue Cullpepper, and three brothers, Nathaniel Long, Joe Long, and Huey Long.
She is survived by her husband Ed Lumpkins of Lawrenceburg.
4 sons, Edward Lumpkins of Cumming, Ga. Eric Lupkins of Lawrenceburg, Timothy Lumpkins of Lawrenceburg, Markus Lumpkins of Lawrenceburg.
7 Daughters, Cynthia Gleason of Petal, Ms., Nancy Lyon of Abelene, Tx., Sandra Harris of Moselle, Ms., Barbara Dyer of Ethridge, Tn., Roxanne Hennis of Hattiesburg, Ms., Shawn Lumpkins of Lawrenceburg, and Ivorie Lumpkins of Lawrenceburg.
One sister, Emily Overman of Durham, NC.
Two brother, John Long of Hattiesburg, Ms., Claudie Long of Hattiesburg, Ms.
19 grandchildren, one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews survive.

A native of Lawrence County, Stephenson was a former employee of Hughes Parker Industry and member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
Survivors include wife Elizabeth Stephenson of Lawrenceburg; son Jason Stephenson of Lawrenceburg; sister Virginia Stephenson of Lawrenceburg; brother William Stephenson of Lawrenceburg. Four grandchildren also survive.

A native of Lawrence County, Beuerlein was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Ladies Guild, Lawrenceburg Home Demonstration Club and Flower Lovers Club.
Survivors include sons James Beuerlein of Ohio, Alan Beuerlein of Arizona, and Harold Beuerlein of Waverly; daughters Mary Mitchell of Nashville and Margaret Reeves of Loretto. Eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.

A native of Loretto, Tays was a retired welder and pipe fitter, a member of Mount Nebo Cumberland Presbyterian Church, a U.S. Army veteran, a Mason, a Shriner, and a member of the Local 572 Steam Fitters Union.
Survivors include son Corey Tays of Leoma; daughter Andrea Abercrombie of Loretto; sisters Linda Pesnell and Kathy Shaw, both of St. Joseph. One grandchild also survives.

Lonnie Johnson, age 74, of St. Joseph, passed away Friday, April 5, 2008.
Retired from the US Army, Johnson served three terms in Vietnam, attended Loretto United Methodist Church, was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the American Legion. He was one of Lawrence County's most highly decorated Military Veterans having flown over 100 combat missions in Korea and Vietnam, he received two Silver Stars and three bronze stars for valor in combat, he received five purple hearts and many other medals for his outstanding service.
Survivors include wife Vernell Bosheers Johnson of St. Joseph; sons Joseph Johnson of Texas, Gary Simbeck and Mike Simbeck both of Lawrenceburg, and Steve Simbeck of Loretto; daughters Tina Rigling of Loretto, Sonya Johnson of St. Joseph, Lori Hanael, Carolyn Johnson and Sandra Johnson all of Texas; brother Ray Johnson of Texas; sisters Anna Jackson, Dottie Pardin and Helen Comfort, all of Texas. A native of Lawrence County, Brown worked at Murray Ohio as well as in the restaurant business.
Survivors include sons Kent Brown and Christopher Sawyer; daughters Tina Rowell, Christina Hammond and Michelle Shackle; brother Larry Brown. Twenty-three grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive.

A native of the Liberty Hill Community, Francis was retired from American Greeting Card Company and a member of the Union Valley Baptist Church.
Survivors include son Vance Francis of Lafayette; brother David Rose of Pulaski; sisters Bernice Nelson, Geneva Holland, Linda Brock all of Ethridge and Iva Mae Rose of Pulaski. Five great grandchildren also survive.

A native of Georgia, Allen was a homemaker, a member of the First United Methodist Church, a member of the Tennessee Valley Jamboree and the Home Demonstration Club. She was also a correspondent for the Democrat-Union and organized the Children's Fellowship at First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include daughter Darlene Allen of Lawrenceburg; son David Allen of Lawrenceburg; sister Patricia Dean of Georgia; brothers Elsworth James of South Carolina and Donald James of Georgia. Three grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.

Robert T. Mason, age 92, of Fayetteville, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2008, at NHC Scott in Lawrenceburg.
A native of Flintville, Mason was the owner of Builders Supply Company and Home Builders, Inc. He served on numerous boards including Fayetteville Electric System, Water and Sewer, City and County Industrial Board and Avalon Dairies. Mason served for twenty-three years on the board of Lincoln County Bank and was a past President of Fayetteville First Federal Savings and Loan. Mason also served in the United States Army during World War II.
Survivors include daughter Jane Jennings of Lawrenceburg; sister Mary Lillian Mason Winsbro of Oak Ridge. Eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren also survive.

A native of Giles County, Inman was a homemaker and a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church.

Lieutenant Commander Floyd Huston Matthews USM (Ret.), age 105, of Lawrence County, died Feb. 24, 2008, following a brief illness.
LCDR (Ret.) Matthews was the nation's oldest surviving submarine sailor, Alabama's oldest veteran, and one of the few remaining WWI-era veterans. In 1919, at age 16, he walked from West Point to Florence and joined the Navy. He rose from a seaman recruit to lieutenant commander during his 30-year naval career.
A native of West Point, Matthews was a member of Florence First United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Elkins Funeral Home, Florence. A military honors funeral will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla.
Survivors include sons Bill Matthews of Killen, Alabama, and John Matthews, of Montgomery, Alabama; daughters Sondra Bishop of Lebanon and Priscilla Smith of Pensacola, Florida. Seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive.
