George Franklin Lanning, age 77 of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, TN. He was a native of Lawrence County, TN. He was the son of the late George Marvin and Flora Bedford Lanning. He was a member of New Prospect United Methodist Church. He received a Doctorate of Pharmacy in 1967 from Samford University and was a pharmacist for forty five years until his retirement in October 2011.
Mr. Lanning served in the United Sates Air Force from 1953 until 1957.

Wallace A. Gamble age 89 of Five Points, Tennessee died peacefully at home on Gamble Road on Tuesday, January 17, 2012. A native of Lawrence County, TN., Wallace was a World War II veteran, retired farmer/carpenter and a faithful member of the Five Points Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by beloved son John Paul Gamble, parents, John Will and Nannie Cora Williams Gamble and two sisters Maxine Putman and Betty Kirk.

Larry Dwayne Shaffer, age 58 of Mount Juliet, Tennessee lost his battle with cancer on Monday, January 16, 2012 at his residence in Mount Juliet, TN. He was a native of Lawrenceburg, TN., a Professional Bass Angler, a graduate of MTSU and formerly employed by Nissan in Smyrna, Tennessee. He was also an avid angler and hunter who loved the outdoors.

Ethel Cromwell Mattox, age 91 died January 15, 2012 at the Talladega Health Care Center. She was a native of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee and lived there 38 years before re-locating to Clarksville, Tennessee with her husband who was employed by the Parks Belk Company. Subsequent Parks Belk assignments sent them to Cleveland, TN., then to Maryville, TN and finally to Columbia, TN where she lived 30 years.
Her last move was to Munford, Al. in 2000. She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Munford. She was preceded in death by her parents, James F. Cromwell and Elizabeth Martin Cromwell; her husband of 53 years, Gernia Mattox; an infant son, Audie Gene Mattox; three sisters, Bertha Barber, Flora Cromwell, and Mary Gilliard; two brothers, Lonzo and Clarence Cromwell; two nieces, Mary Ellen Barber Webb and Louise Barber Richardson; and one great niece Jean McDonald Hood.

Karah Collinsworth McKissack, of Longview, Texas passed away peacefully from this earthly life at the age of 91 on December 14, 2011 at a local nursing facility.
Karah was born on May 22, 1920 to Inez Belle Bright and James Warner Collinsworth. She graduated as valedictorian of her class and earned her bachelor’s degree from Memphis State College, now Memphis State University. She later earned her teaching certification in biology and science and taught in Baytown, Texas and Carthage, Texas. She also taught in Gainsville, Missouri. After her retirement, she substituted in the Hallsville Schools.
Mrs. McKissack was an excellent pianist and accompanied her husband’s college and church choirs. She often played for him when he sang solos for community organizations, churches, weddings and other special occasions.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Elbert McKissack, and her two sisters, Joyce Snider and Margaret Griggs. She represented the last living relative of her generation on both sides of the family.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Karah Anne “Kay” Alluns of Longview, Texas, Linda Joyce Beale-Clark and her husband, Cliff Clark, Detroit, MI. Grandsons, Kevin Allums and wife Jennifer of Crosby, Texas, Kenneth Allums, Houston, Texas and Luke Beale and wife, Clo of Portland, Oregon; great grandchildren, Jamie and Jenna Allums and Sabine Beale.

Jo Ann Parrott Connor, age 76 of Franklin, Tennessee passed away Monday, December 12, 2011 at NHC Place of Cool Springs in Franklin, Tennessee after a long battle with cancer. Born July 7,1935 in Lawrence County, Tennessee to James C. and Mary Willie Parrott, she attended a business school after high school and work for the U.S. government in Washington, Japan, and Korea. Later she graduated from David Lipscomb University and received a commission in the U.S. Marine Corp where she met and married her husband, Charles Connor, who was a USMC pilot.
During the Vietnam war, Chuck was an MIA from 1968 until 1978 when he was officially declared dead. During the time Chuck was MIA, she earned a Master’s degree from MTSU and became a school librarian. She was retired from Franklin City School after 27 years as a librarian and was a member of the Church of Christ. In addition to her parents and husband, she is also preceded in death by one sister, Jean Nash.

Donald Bradley “Brad” Porter, age 82 of Lexington, Alabama passed away Monday, November 21, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Lexington, Alabama on January 15, 1929. He attended Lexington High School and was a member of the 1948 graduating class. He also attended Calhoun Community College and graduated as a welder. He was drafted into the Army (1951 – 1953) and served in the Korean War in the 98th Engr. APR Company and was a member of American Legion Post 11 in Florence. He was employed by Union Carbide Corporation from 1961-1991 and was a member of the Lexington Church of Christ. His parents were the late Bernice and Dessie McGuire Porter. He was born on May 29, 1923 in Leoma, Tennessee the son of Francis Marion and Emily Cordelia Speakman. He married Bess Crane on August 21, 1949. She survives him.
He served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War ll. He earned a Masters degree from Mid Continent Baptist College and his Bachelors degree from Middle Tennessee University. He was school teacher for 3 years in Tennessee and for 3 years in Montana.
He has been a Southern Baptist Minister since 1947. He filled the pulpit in Mounds, McClure, and Ullin Baptist Churches. He was also the Chaplain of the 11ath Engineers Reunion Group, United States Army.
He is survived by

Henry Ford Turner, age 89 of Ethridge, Tennessee passed away Sunday, October 16, 2011 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. A native of Lawrence County, TN., he was retired from U.S. Postal Service and a member of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church. He was also a veteran of World War ll, having served in the European African Middle Eastern Campaign. He was a retired farmer and also served two terms on the Lawrence County Commission and was the Lawrence County South Central representative for the Human Resources Agency at Fayetteville for a number of years. His parents were the late William Jackson and Maude Yeager Turner. He was also preceded in death by one brother, James K. Turner, four sisters, Gladys Forehand, Mattie Blanche South, Ora Parker and Cora Maddox Benefield, one nephew, William Jackson “Bill” Turner.

Preceded in death by parents, Lewis and Eula Freeland, granddaughter, Whitney Lauren Elliott.
Betty Gamble Kirk age 81 of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at NHC Healthcare of Scott in Lawrenceburg. She was a native of Lawrence County, Tennessee, a retired cafeteria worker form the Lawrence County School System and a member of Pulaski Street Church of Christ.
Her parents were the late John William and Matilda Davis Gamble. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Maxine Gamble Putman.

Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5pm to 8pm Friday, September 30, 2011 at Neal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 2pm Saturday, October 1, 2011 with Bro. Jeremiah Tatum and Bro. Joe Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Kidd Cemetery in Lawrence County, TN.
Clettues Edward Ellis, age 72 of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Wayne Medical Center. He was a native of Lawrence County, Tennessee. Was a partner with E & R Welding Shop for 30 years and a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at Loretto Memorial Chapel on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 2pm. Mickey Brackin and Richard Hallmark will be officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Florence Ellizabeth Hovelmeier Washburn, age 85 of Hendersonville, Tennessee, formerly of Lawrenceburg, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin, TN. A native of Lawrence County, TN., she was a homemaker and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Her parents were the late John Joseph Hovelmeier and Sara Guessman Hovelimeier. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Jane Washburn.
She is survived by
