Local Nomination Of Accounts & Budget Director For National Award Wins
Each year the Association of Government
Accountants (AGA) awards 7 different National Leadership Awards to deserving individuals.
Local citizen Jeffrey Hughes, a member of AGA, nominated Mrs. Purcell for the Distinguished Local Government Leadership Award which she did win.
This award is given to a local government professional who exemplifies and promotes excellence in government financial management and who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in enhancing sound financial management legislation, regulations, practices, policies and systems.
The award recognizes the outstanding leadership of individuals in local government that led to improved financial management practices, policies, systems or operations and consistently exhibited the highest personal and professional standards.
The winner is selected on a National level annually and is presented the crystal award at the Annual Leadership Conference in February.
Teresa Purcell has been instrumental in helping to correct many accounting deficiencies and internal control problems since being appointed the Director of Accounts in Budgets for Lawrence County, TN in 2004.
Her leadership and policy developments have made Lawrence County known throughout Tennessee and many of her policies have even been incorporated in other counties across the State.
She has also saved Lawrence County over $4.7 million dollars since her arrival. Her dedication to her job is shown throughout Lawrence and surrounding counties.
She continues to pursue other potential cost saving ideas to help Lawrence County make the most out of each dollar.
