Five Lawrence County Schools Receive Read to be Ready Grant Funding

Lawrence County School System is pleased to announce that five schools within our district have been named as recipients of the 2019 Read to Be Ready Grant!

Congratulations to Leoma Elementary, New Prospect School, Lawrenceburg Public School, David Crockett Elementary, and Ingram Sowell Elementary on receiving funds that focus on increasing third grade reading proficiency in Tennessee to 75% by 2025 through a variety of initiatives.

Read to be Ready is a campaign launched by Governor Bill Haslam, First Lady Crissy Haslam and Commissioner Candice McQueen in February 2016.    A total of 218 public schools within Tennessee have been awarded the Read to be Ready grant for 2019.

The program consists of month-long literacy-focused summer camps for students across the state along with children receiving books to have at home. A great advantage of the program is that rather than sliding backward during the summer months, students in Read to be Ready camps have a chance to keep learning and advance their reading skills.
