Considerable Loss Results When Copper Lines Are Cut And Stolen From Substation

Lawrenceburg Utility Systems reported a significant loss last week after employees discovered that a large amount of copper cable was cut and stolen from a substation on Rabbit Trail Road.

Two employees reported to Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies that they had arrived at the substation around 8:30 Thursday morning and found that sections of heavy copper twisted ground cable had been cut from forty metal columns, four ground cables had been cut from the main transformer, and that six copper ground cables had been cut from three large breaker boxes. The persons responsible had made off with all of the cable.

Reports show that the theft took place sometime between December 1 and December 4. Those responsible had cut through a metal safety fence in order to gain access to the substation.

Monetary loss resulting from the fence having been cut was estimated at $500, while the value of the stolen cable was said to total approximately $12,500.

Anyone who has information about the crime is urged to contact the sheriff’s department at 931-762-3626.
