Tornado drill conducted at Southern Tennessee Regional Health System

A tornado disaster drill was conducted by Southern Tennessee Regional Health System in Lawrenceburg on Wednesday (December 5, 2018).  The purpose of the drill was to test the readiness of hospital personnel to respond to such an event and to practice communication with first responders who would be involved in a tornado response.

The drill assumed that a tornado had touched down at the hospital campus with damage to the facility including loss of power including emergency generators.  This required the evacuation of patients already at the hospital and treatment of additional victims from the tornado.  An alternate care facility was established at Lawrenceburg Rotary Park.

In addition to personnel from STRHS, personnel from Lawrenceburg Fire, Lawrenceburg Police, Lawrence County EMS, Moore Care Ambulance, NHC Brink, and Lawrenceburg/Lawrence County EMA were involved.  Nursing students from the Tennessee Technology Center in Pulaski participated as simulated patients and victims.  A representative from the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency observed and assisted with evaluation of the drill.
