Summertown High School Students Educated Outside The Classroom

Rehabilitative Therapy students opted to pay for a trip to help them learn from Health Care professionals such as an Athletic Trainer, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Therapist and Respiratory Therapist in order to give them the exposure they need to help them decide on their future careers.

Several of their state mandated class standards were met from attending this trip as well.  These professionals were very generous with their time and worked closely with our students to allow them to get involved with volunteer patients and to observe various procedures.

Pictured are the students with "Hunter," Nutrition and Sports Training Expert at Harvey's Gym;  Vernon Sides, PT from Star Physical Therapy;  NHC SCOTT Healthcare therapist Beth Baker, OTR;  Annette Harman, COTA/L; Donna Thomas, Speech Therapist and CRC of Rehab; Sonja Wisdom, PTA; Bill Daly, PT; Melanie Kilburn, LPTA; Karen Hardison, PTA; and Kisha Dison,  RRT.

"I can teach our students via internet, discussion and interactive activities in my class about careers but nothing speaks louder to these students than first hand experience and exposure.  We are a very blessed community to have such caring and talented professionals who invest in the futures of these students. We would like to send out a very special thank you from our class to everyone for their time"  says Mrs. Barnett, RRT,  Rehabilitative Class Instructor.
