Local child rape suspect arrested in neighboring Alabama

A Lawrenceburg man wanted on charges of aggravated rape of a child in the sexual 
assault of his sixteen month old son was apprehended in neighboring Alabama on Sunday.
The Scottsboro, Alabama Police Department reported the arrest of thirty-three year old Simon Dean Porter. Porter was spotted by a passerby while walking along Alabama Highway 79.
The passerby recognized him as having been added to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's Top 10 Most Wanted List and quickly alerted authorities.
Officials with the Lawrenceburg Police Department sought information from the public last week regarding Porter's whereabouts. They had been notified by a physician after the young boy was brought to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville for medical treatment for injuries sustained in the sexual assault.
Porter was incarcerated at the Scottsboro City Jail where he was awaiting extradition.
