DUI Charges Issued In Single Vehicle Crash

DUI charges were issued against a Lawrenceburg man last week after he allegedly crashed his vehicle while intoxicated.

Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department show that Charles Thomas Brown, II, age 53 of 801 Fall River Road was arrested on charges that include first offense DUI, violation of the open container law, failure to exhibit due care, reckless driving, and reckless endangerment.

Witnesses reported that Brown had been traveling eastbound behind their vehicles when he attempted to pass them. As he passed the first vehicle at a high rate of speed, the second driver attempted to make a left turn into her driveway. She told officers that at the last possible second Brown swerved back across his lane, left the roadway, and struck a utility pole.

Officers reported that Brown exhibited signs of being intoxicated and that a vodka bottle was found lying beside the driver’s door. While he, at first, told officers he had “taken a couple of sips” of vodka while driving, he reportedly admitted later that he had drank more than a pint.

Brown was transported to the hospital for medical attention. He was later transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center for incarceration. He has been scheduled an initial appearance in General Sessions Court on December 5, 2014.
