Deputy Injured In Crash While Attempting To Apprehend Robbery Suspect
A Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputy sustained injury Sunday afternoon when he became involved in a crash while attempting to apprehend a fleeing robbery suspect.
According to information released by Lawrence County Sheriff Jimmy Brown, the incident began occurred around 2:30 p.m. when a robbery was reported at CVS Pharmacy on North Locust Avenue.
The suspect, Jeremy Don Johnson, 30, of Clarksville, fled from the scene. Officers pursued Johnson’s vehicle north along Highway 43, joined in their efforts by deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department.
Brown reports that Deputy Dennis Cody, “positioned his patrol unit in an attempt to prevent Johnson from endangering oncoming traffic.” At the Main Street intersection in Ethridge, Johnson crashed into Cody’s patrol car, “causing both vehicles to become disabled.”
Both Cody and Johnson were injured in the crash. Both were transported by ambulance to Crockett Hospital. Cody was later transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville for additional medical treatment.
Brown reports that, “Criminal charges will be forthcoming (against Johnson) through the District Attorney’s Office.”
At the time of Sunday’s crimes, Johnson was said to be on parole in connection with previous cases of aggravated robbery.
