Warrants Issued Against Two Locals For Violating Sex Offender Registry Law

Arrest warrants were issued against two Lawrenceburg men last week after they were found to be in violation of the state’s Sex Offender Registry law.

On Thursday officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department received information regarding the possible violation status of both men.

They report going to a West Gaines Street home in an effort to contact forty-seven year old Donald Clayton Long, but were told that he no longer lives at the address.

They were directed to 312 May Street where they were able to make contact. Long allegedly told them that he had moved to that address approximately two weeks prior.

Officers questioned Long about why he had not notified the department of his address change as required by state law. They also asked him why he had not registered in September as is required. He told them that he “forgot.”

Long was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was incarcerated under a charge of violation of the sex offender registry law. He is scheduled to answer the charge in General Sessions Court on November 6, 2014.

Shortly afterwards officer went to check on the status of Donald Joe Carpenter, age 53, at a home on Fifth Street. A relative informed officers that he only resides at the address part time and had not been there for a few days.

Officers report that there were outstanding warrants against Carpenter regarding child support. The relative said he was currently “hiding” from sheriff’s deputies in an effort to avoid incarceration.

Officers were unable to locate Carpenter at that time but obtained a warrant charging him with the sex offender registry violation.
