Texas Company Says Local Resident’s Identity Was Used To Obtain Services

A local woman told authorities that when she was contacted by a Texas business last week she learned that someone had used her identity in order to illegally obtain utility services.

The victim, a fifty-seven year old resident of Prokesh Road in Leoma, reported to Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies that she had been contacted by TXU Energy regarding an account that had been opened in her name on June 27, then closed on August 19. The caller said that there was an outstanding balance of $226.18.

The mailing address associated with the account was said to be in Houston, Texas. Two phone numbers, one local, had been used, as well.

Deputies advised the victim to run a credit check on her name to ensure that there were no other illegal debts associated with her personal information.
