Clerk Says Man Left With Merchandise When Payment Was Declined

A clerk at a Lawrenceburg business filed a complaint with law enforcement officials last week, stating that a man had simply left the store with the item he had attempted to purchase, after his payment had been declined.

The clerk at Dollar General Store, 2010 North Locust Avenue, reported the crime Wednesday to officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department. He reported that the male customer had attempted to purchase a phone card, but that payment by check was declined.

The clerk reported that when he handed the check back to the man and explained the situation, he turned and walked out of the store without paying for the phone card. He said the man left in a white, newer model SUV.

Loss to the store was reported to be $66.38. The matter remains under investigation.
