Ethridge Woman Accused Of Filing False Report To Obtain Medication

An Ethridge woman is accused of filing a false police report last week in an attempt to obtain prescription medication.

Authorities with the Lawrenceburg Police Department report that Cynthia Ann Bessent, 34, of 325 Lincoln Street was arrested on charges of possession of Schedule II narcotics and filing a false police report.

Reports show that Bessent stopped by the department to report that her purse, containing her prescription medications and $312 cash, had been stolen out of a vehicle. Authorities indicate that she would need a copy of the police report in order to obtain replacement medications.

Officers report that prior to Bessent’s arrival they had received information indicating that she intended to file the false report, but that she was still in possession of her medication. When confronted Bessent reportedly denied the allegation.

Once she was arrested officers conducted a search of her purse for weapons. They report finding inside approximately .25 grams of methamphetamine along with the medication she had reported stolen.

Bessent was incarcerated under a $5,000 bond. She is set to answer the charges in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on November 6, 2014.
