Resident Awakens To Find Dog Chasing Intruder Across Yard

A Glenn Springs Road resident requested an investigation Friday after she was awakened by a noise, then looked out to see her dog chasing an intruder across the yard.

The forty-five year old victim told deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department that she had been awakened by a noise and thought that someone was knocking on her front door.

She did not see anyone when she looked out, but when she removed her earplugs she realized that her dog was barking. She said she looked out a side window and saw that the dog was chasing a “tall, slim, white male” across the back yard.

The dogs chased the man across a field and into a wooded area. The victim said the man was clothed in blue jeans, a white T-shirt, and was wearing a cap.

Approximately five minutes after the man disappeared from sight, the victim said she noticed a white, four-door Ford Focus hatchback stop in front of her driveway. After a few moments, she said the female driver slowly drove away, heading west.

A neighbor told deputies that he, too, had noticed the suspicious vehicle. He said that the driver was “looking between the houses as she went by as if she was looking for someone.”

A search of the field and wooded area was conducted however deputies were unable to locate the suspect.

Deputies found that the would-be intruder had pushed the back door open, apparently causing the noise that alerted the resident and her dogs.
