Customers Fails To Pay Repair Costs Before Vehicle Is Repossessed

A Lawrenceburg business experienced a considerable loss when a man failed to pay for costly repairs to his vehicle just before it was repossessed.

The owner of Deals on Wheels on North Locust Avenue reported to Lawrenceburg Police officers Wednesday that his business had experienced a loss of $7,492.36.

He told officers that the man had initially brought the 2010 Ford F450 into the shop to have the engine checked. They determined that there were extensive problems and agreed that the engine would be rebuilt at a cost of $5,500.

The victim said the man returned a few weeks later and the work had not yet been completed. He said they compared the cost of rebuilding the engine versus a complete replacement. He said that the man instructed them to install a new engine instead, at a cost of $7,500.

The victim said that the man returned for the truck on August 29 after the repairs had been completed. He said that they were working out terms to finance the cost of the repairs and he allowed the man to drive the truck home under the condition that he return the following day with a second vehicle title to be held as collateral. He told officers that the man never returned.

Since that time, the victim said that he has contacted the man several times, but that he “has only gotten excuses.” He told officers that shortly after the man took the truck it was repossessed by the bank through which it was financed.

Investigation in the matter is continuing at the current time through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
